Job Killing Legislation, Upcoming Street Faire News, and more!

Hello Short Week Workers,
I say that because it has been very quiet here today. My suspicion is many people are stretching their Memorial Day Holiday an extra day or four. Sad to say when we business folk are away, the State Legislature does some of its worst work…in the Chamber of Commerce’s opinion at least.

Below are four JOB KILLERS. It will become obvious to you why these bills get the label JOB KILLER. Business owners throughout the state are closing down or moving out of state because of the unfriendly business atmosphere created by current majority of elected representatives.  In this covey there are five more bills that are “just” bad for business, one of a thousand cuts adding extra taxes and new cost creating regulations to doing business in our sunshine state.

Below is a list of bills that are currently on the floor that we could use your help by reaching out to your elected officials. Click the links for full details on each bill.

AB 71 (Rivas) – Oppose: Job Killer
AB 257 (Gonzalez) – Oppose
AB 650 (Muratsuchi) – Oppose: Job Killer
AB 995 (Gonzalez) – Oppose: Job Killer
AB 1074 (Gonzalez) – Oppose
AB 1371 (Friedman) – Oppose
SB 213 (Cortese) – Oppose: Job Killer
SB 568 (Pan) – Oppose
SB 746 (Skinner) – Oppose

These are just a fraction of the hundreds of bills swimming like fish through committees dying to become new laws. Everyone in the business of representing the interests of businesses in Sacramento agree this is the worst year for onerous anti-business bills ever. And coming just after the crippling pandemic left many in the business sector still limping back to solvency.

We encourage you to call out to Jim Cooper in the Assembly and Susan Eggman in the Senate to tell them how you feel and encourage them to realize a vote FOR business is one that keeps people hired and working.

And now for something completely different…The Street Faire is on for Sunday, October 3rd on the downtown streets of Lodi. It to will have slight modifications due to outside dining and tasting. But vendors I’ve spoken to are enthusiastic about getting back to the shady streets of Lodi. Mark your calendars now.

In the meantime, the final Lodi Market held on the Grape Festival Grounds will be this Saturday, June 5th. I’ve heard good things and it has added quite a few new vendors so go see, admission is free and you will see many Lodi people you know. See you at the Farmers Market on Thursday, wait for the breeze and come on down!

Until next week.
