This Wednesday at the City Council Meeting- virtual of course- Council will, I hope, vote in favor of the last item on the consent agenda. The item has been dreamt about for years, and a question I’ve been asked about dozens of times for at least 10 years. Perhaps you yourself have asked the question about the possibility of a Downtown hotel. A nice one to attract tourists, but where would it be located? A perfect location would be where the old post office is. The Post Office occupies about 80-90 percent of a block in the middle of downtown. A development company has found a willing seller in the Federal government this time around.  From what I heard, the hotel will occupy most of the block where the Post Office is. Picture four stories with a restaurant on top and a ballroom. 

 

This news will be a huge leap forward for Downtown and all the eateries shops and tasting rooms. And, in my opinion, will bring much more and accelerate the development of Sacramento Street and all of Downtown. The build out will be two or three years hopefully. It cannot come soon enough. Where will the Post Office move to? Unknown, but if you have property on the far westside of Lodi give the Post Office a call, you never know.
