Tempranillo is often referred to as the “Cabernet” of Spain due to its widespread planting and its noble status as the backbone of Spanish reds. It is fondly known by many names such as Ull de Llebre “Eye of the Hare”, Cencibel, Valdepenas and Tinta del Pais. It has thick and tannic skins that add a complexity of aromas and color to the finished wine. In celebration of National Tempranillo Day on November 10, 17 Lodi wineries are hosting special tastings of Tempranillo at their respective tasting rooms. Participating wineries are as follows: Bokisch Vineyards, d’Art Wines, Dancing Coyote Wines, Dancing Fox Winery, Estate Crush Winery, Fields Family Wines, Heritage Oak Winery, m2 Wines, McCay Cellars, Peirano Estate Vineyards, Riaza Wines, Ripken Vineyards & Winery, St. Amant Winery, St. Jorge Winery, Toasted Toad Cellars, Viaggio Estate & Winery, and Woodbridge Uncorked. Pick up a special tour booklet at any of the listed participating wineries and start your Tempranillo adventure! There is no ticket required to participate. Tasting fees may apply at individul winery tasting rooms.
