Have you heard about the 1,000 Internships program form Delta College? I had several months ago, we promoted it, but not nearly enough I feel. Why wouldn’t a business, any kind of business from office work to the gritty manufacturing floor of a metal fabricator. Plus, the young people have a DESIRE to work at a time when many are waiting until that last Unemployment Check runs out. Delta College is proud to announce a bold plan to provide training and financial resources to our students. It’s called the “1,000 Internships Initiative,” and it is exactly what the name suggests: 1,000 PAID Internships that will sustain
workers financially while also preparing them for a diverse range of future careers. Delta College is providing $2 million to support this initiative, with San Joaquin County providing another $2 Million.
We ask Community Partners and employers to stand with us in helping unemployed or underemployed and their families get back on their feet with living wage salaries. Business owners of any kind or size… did you catch the part about $4 million dollars. They pay the intern not your business, they pay the young person to work for you in your business.
At these prices why not get two or more? They are paying the salary, not you, not the Chamber, we’re going to do it! Why not, especially if you are watching your costs coming out of this covid cloud. And the cherry on top is this comes at a time when we cannot find people that want to work.
