The STAART Program: A Proactive Approach to Combating Retail Theft
Retail theft is a serious epidemic impacting businesses across our region. The financial losses, time spent dealing with theft-related issues, and the long-term impact on future revenue are staggering. To address this, the Greater Stockton Chamber, with generous support from the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, has launched the STAART Program, backed by a $1.2 million grant.

The STAART Program is designed to enhance our community’s ongoing efforts to combat retail theft by proactively engaging in actions and activities that mitigate crime. This initiative isn’t just about reacting to theft—it’s about preventing it from happening in the first place.

Introducing the FAAST Start App
As part of the STAART Program, we’re excited to promote the FAAST Start App—a powerful tool that puts crime prevention and reporting right in the palm of your hand. This app enables business owners and community members to quickly and efficiently report incidents of retail theft. It’s designed to work in tandem with local law enforcement reporting forms and ensures that your evidence contributes to the broader effort to prosecute organized retail theft.

Camera Grant Program: Enhance Your Security
In addition to the FAAST Start App, the STAART Program includes a Camera Grant initiative, providing eligible businesses with the resources to install security cameras at their locations. These cameras can serve as a critical deterrent to would-be criminals and offer valuable evidence should an incident occur.

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the Camera Grant, businesses must meet the following criteria:

• Physical Storefront: Your business must have a physical storefront within the San Joaquin County limits.
• Valid Business Credentials: You must possess a valid business license, proof of insurance for the business location, and a valid photo ID.
• Small Business Status: Your business must be classified as a small business, with fewer than 500 employees.
• Security Concerns: Your business must be experiencing security concerns, such as theft or vandalism, where cameras could make a significant impact.

Unfortunately, certain types of businesses are ineligible for this grant program, including:

• Corporate-owned businesses (local franchises may still be eligible).
• Government entities.
• Educational institutions.
• Vacant properties.
