In collaboration with the Cosumnes River Preserve and the Galt Joint Union Elementary and High School Districts, the City of Galt is pleased to bring you the 9th Annual Winter Bird Festival on January 23, 2016. Festival headquarters located at McCaffrey Middle School will provide a starting point for exclusive preserve tours, educational presentations, wildlife shows, art displays, two outstanding food trucks, free children?s activities, arts and crafts vendors, and hands-on activities and workshops. Attendees will experience the beauty of a live raptor/owl discussion by Chris Cameron Co-chair of the Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival. The always popular ?Wild Things? presentation where guests get to interact with a variety of wild life ambassadors! Additionally, guests will have the opportunity to listen and engage in presentations from the Director of Working Lands at Audubon California, Meghan Hurtel, as well as naturalist, David Lukas who has authored six books, including Sierra Nevada Natural History, Wild Birds ofCalifornia, and his latest book, Bay Area Birds. For those that enjoy outdoor activities, the beauty and tranquility of the Cosumnes River Preserve will host incredible opportunities to catch sightings of waterfowl, shorebirds, and wildlife in their winter habitat. Tours choices include the Zenoptic Wetlands Dawn Photo Tour, Hiking Tour of the Remote Riparian Habitat that is generally closed to the public, The Secret of Vernal Pools Tour, Bird Walk at the Winery, Kingbird Farms: Farming in the Wild Tour and so much more! If relaxing and enjoying a sip of wine are more up your alley, guests will want to check out the Sip Wine and Paint Birds activity at Barsetti Vineyards Tasting Room located in old-town historic Galt. Attendees will paint your very own Great Blue Heron ? the mascot of the 9th Annual Winter Bird Festival ? on a keepsake canvas that is yours to display in the environment of your own home! As the day winds to a close, interested participants may just want to take advantage of the Staten Island Sunset Tour or join The Sunset With Save Our Sandhill Cranes Organization where you will experience a spectacular evening of education and likely will watch as families of Sandhill Cranes fly in to roost for the night. The Winter Bird Festival offers something for everyone. Children's activities are free, Smokin Hot Pizza and A Moveable Feast will be joining us this year to satisfy hungry bellies after a full day of amazing and talented speakers and tours!
